ANTIQUE ALCOCK & CO JOHN ROBERTS MODEL FULL SIZE BILLIARD TABLE No. 1958

Price $32,500.00 inc GST

From 1849 until 1870, Englishman John Roberts held the Title “Champion billiards player of the World”.

During 1864 Roberts visited the colonies of Australasia. Having highly praised Alcock billiard tables during this tour, he arranged to have one shipped to England for use in his own London “saloon”.

Alcocks designed a special table for the champion which became known as the John Roberts model. A small number were made during the next 40 years. One imposing example can be found today at Government House Victoria.

Today, throughout Australia, an Alcock John Roberts Table rarely becomes available for purchase.

John Roberts Table No 1958 was originally manufactured during the early 1880’s at Alcocks Manufactory, then situated in Russell Street in what is now the Melbourne CBD. This Table was extensively restored some years ago and today offers an extremely high level of performance. At the time the figured Blackwood show woodwork finish was upgraded while ensuring that the much sought after patina of age was retained.

A rare four roller marking board faced in figured Blackwood and pillar cue rack come with the Table.
